Opportunity

Let’s Make This Happen.

The outcome of a successful tender application will be:

  • De-risk the higher costs of establishing a Hydrogen Transport Industry Manufacturing Hub located in our region constructing a purpose-built facility to allow the burgeoning commercial hydrogen fuel cell & marine construction industry to expand exponentially in the Whitsunday region. This directly reflects greater diversification of business in Northern Australia and has wide reaching impacts through Modern Manufacturing Initiatives
  • The immediate injection of $2.2m into the local economy as direct result of the construction of the facility and the ongoing operation and future expansion will support  the vision of a stronger and diversified Northern Australian
  • The opportunity for the creation of a new export market by manufacturing superior quality Hydrogen fuel-cell powered vessels, for both commercial use and the highly lucrative leisure markets. H2 Marine will support global market diversification and earn the reputation as a world leader in the production of these highly advanced watercraft.
  • Using resilience initiatives such as manufacturing composite structural componentry and hydrogen fuel cell propulsion systems on site will resist future external supply chain shocks.
  • Planned expansion of the H2 Marine Whitsunday operation will retain and expand the engagement of contractors and our supplier network within region’s manufacturing growth corridor between Cairns and Gladstone.
  • As the intertest in hydrogen fuel cell propulsion increases so will our business’s turnover and Future contracts to build new vessels will coincide with the engagement to covert current petroleum powered vessels to Hydrogen fuel cell propulsion. In our local region alone, we have identified 17 existing commercial vessels that are suitable for a hydrogen fuel cell conversion. Expansion into the private boating industry is exponential with thousands of potential new builds and HFC conversions.
  • Formation of partnerships with other composite boat building business in our region offering their employees and apprentices the opportunity to increase their skills and knowledge base by exposing them to advanced boat building techniques H2 Marine will specialise in. The practice of these modern construction techniques are a rarity in Australia and sharing these will develop a new skills base that the local industry will prosper and profit from.

Sustainable Long-Term Employment Opportunities

Increased Employment and Training

Increased employment and training outcomes will include:

  • Provision of both short- and long-term employment in the construction of the facility and ongoing operation of H2 Marine Whitsunday
  • The immediate employment of up to 38 local and regional contractors to build and fit out the construction hall and training facility
  • The creation of 12 new full-time jobs employed directly by H2 Marine to manufacture and fit out new commercial boats.
  • Create the first Hydrogen Fuel Cell training facility employing specialised professionals in the training of Safety Management procedures and operation and use of hydrogen as a fuel for the transport industry.
  • The engagement of 47 contractors during the 22-month construction of H2Rendezvous project.
  • By offering onsite training and employment, H2 Marine will attract and create a new generation of highly skilled workers to the region specialising in advanced boat building techniques and Hydrogen fuel cell technology.
  • H2 Marine will assist in the rectification of the current workforce training and education deficiencies in our region, specifically addressing critical skills shortages and labour supply by the creation of our new training facility. A key outcome will be the introduction of sustainable long-term employment opportunities in vessel construction and the hydrogen fuel cell transportation industry in our region and more broadly in QLD and Australia wide.
